Antibiotics for ear infection
The 2004 American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines for the treatment of ear infections includes specific recommendation of how antibiotics should be used in different situations. Most ear infections do not need antibiotics at all.
If antibiotics are used, high-dose amoxicillin is the best choice for most children – along with treatment for their ear pain.
If the child is allergic to amoxicillin, then Ceftin, Omnicef, or Vantin are the preferred choices. If the child is also allergic to all four of these, then Zithromax or Biaxin are the recommended alternatives.
If the child with the ear infection has a fever over 102.2 F or is severely ill, then the best starting antibiotic is usually Augmentin.
Whatever the initial antibiotic, it should be changed if there is not clear improvement within 48 to 72 hours. High-dose Augmentin is usually the best follow-up choice.
The more partners you have, the more likely you are to be infected, although you can be infected by one contact. An infection can prevent pregnancy by blocking the uterine tubes. It can damage sperm, so they can’t swim toward the egg, and it can cause miscarriage, premature birth or low birth weight. Infected people may have burning on urination, discomfort when the bladder is full or an urgency to void. Women may have only spotting between periods. Or there may be no symptoms at all.
Treatment for sinus infection can begin from home just at the onset of it before it becomes chronic. Simple care at home can open the sinus nasal passage and improve their dryness. There should be much intake of hot liquid beverages to keep the dryness away. Inhalation with steamed water with a drop eucalyptus oils helps to a great extent.
For Sinus infection treatment doctors prescribe Expectorants that helps to push out the thick mucus from the nasal passage. The mucus becomes thin and it can easily flow out from the nose.
What is Post Nasal Drip?
Scientifically speaking, post nasal drip happens when excessive mucus appears because of the sinuses. It can accumulate in the throat or at the back of your nose and can be caused by sinusitis (as already mentioned), rhinitis or laryngopharyngeal acid reflux. Allergies can also trigger it or make it worse, no matter the season of the year when it appears.
The term post nasal drip is not used that much by some of the doctors because it is considered to be obsolete. Nowadays, it is also known as the Chronic Upper Airway Cough Syndrome. In any case, the term post nasal drip is still quite common in medical literature.
There are different possible symptoms to take into account when diagnosing post nasal drips. The most common ones are the need to constantly swallow and/or spit, congestions in the sinus and nasal passages, tickling sensation in the throat, crystals found in the tonsils (they are in most cases white or yellow), chronic sore throat, coughing, nausea (caused by mucus accumulating in the stomach) and vomiting (caused by the same reason as nausea). Bad breath is also a very common symptom of post nasal drip.
